One of the big benefits of living just north of the valley is you are nearly a full hour closer to all of the cooler weather that northern Arizona has to offer. Upon leaving the confines of our beautiful little town and heading north you are about an hour away from a 30 degree temperature drop in the summer. In the winter 2 hours gets you to the fun, sun drenched ski slopes of Flagstaff’s Snow Bowl.
Recently I took advantage of these proximities a few weeks ago to take the 4 hour drive to Page, Arizona and the Glen Canyon dam to spend 4 days camping, boating and fishing with my son in beautiful Lake Powell. Not only was the bass fishing phenomenal but we took the time to do some sight seeing and hiked to the Rainbow Bridge National Monument. If you ever have the opportunity I highly recommend exploring this scenic area of our great nation.
Lake Powell offers something for everyone. If you are looking to rough it you can pitch a tent in millions of locations along the shore of the lake accessible by either boat or vehicle. If you want a little more comfort in your exploration you can rent a hotel room at Lake Powell Resorts or a Houseboat if you want the best of both worlds. Be prepared however as Lake Powell is very large and many times storms can come out of nowhere.
